Orkney is one of the best locations in the UK for bird-watching. The RSPB operates ten reserves in Orkney.


St.Magnus cathederal is awe inspiring.

Orkney has been home to humans for thousands of years. From Orkney’s Neolithic settlers to the bronze & iron ages to the Pictish peoples & Vikings and into the modern age, and two World wars, there is a wealth of archeology and heritage to discover.

Orkney has become World famous for it’s well preserved historic sites like Skara Brae, Maeshowe, the Ring of Brodgar, the Broch of Gurness and the Tomb of the Eagles. Orkney is also home to the world famous St.Magnus cathedral, which is about 2 minutes walk from Sunrise apartment.

The World wars of the 20th century also left there marks famously on Orkney with the Churchill barriers, the German fleet scuttled in Scapa flow and the Italian chapel. The visitor centre at Lyness on the island of Hoy offers a glimpse back into the troubled 20th century.

Free trout fishing & sea angling makes Orkney an attractive destination for anglers of all abilities. Sailing is catered for with Kirkwall and Stromness providing marinas for visiting yachts.
